Its research, development, and educational vision is to use design thinking to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153drive multidisciplinary innovation,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d believing that \u00e2\u20ac\u0153great innovators and leaders need to be great design thinkers\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (&#8220;Standford University Institute of Design,&#8221; 2007). It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s objective is to bring a diverse set of professionals together to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153tackle difficult, messy problems that demand interdisciplinary solutions\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. It takes a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153human approach to design, business and engineering,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d desiring that students \u00e2\u20ac\u0153develop a personal point of view and confidence in their design methodology,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d becoming \u00e2\u20ac\u0153wiser, more complete human beings\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. It provides an \u00e2\u20ac\u0153innovation space for all of Stanford\u00e2\u20ac\u009d where students and faculty from \u00e2\u20ac\u0153engineering, business, medicine, the humanities and education \u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 learn design thinking and work together to solve big problems in a human-centered way\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. Moreover, it strengthens the connection between \u00e2\u20ac\u0153university and industry\u00e2\u20ac\u009d creating a place where people from \u00e2\u20ac\u0153big companies, startups, schools, non-profits, government and anyone else who realizes the power of design thinking can join our multidisciplinary teaching, prototyping and research.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d What intrigues me about the d.school is that the educational enterprise itself is an open and participatory exercise of design, where just in time curriculum, courses and lessons are designed in response to the real learning problems that its environment generates.
